We did the same thing here. I shared my computer and iPad till they were fifteen. Then they built their first desk desktop computer themselves. No smartphones till 16&18 respectively. They’re male, so the gaming and discord is their social media. And no, as a software engineer I can tell you that smartphones at 8 is no advantage. It teaches them only how to consume, not create. Not much advantage there. Better to teach them how to create, as this article shows. Then they will be the ones to shape technology, not just get lost in it.
